The MSCI Index is a measurement of stock market performance in a particular area. MSCI stands for Morgan Stanley Capital International. MSCI Barra now manages the 160,000 indexes. Like other indexes, such as the Dow Jones Averages or the S&P 500, it tracks the performance of the stocks included in the index. MSCI rebalancing happens 4 times a year (quarterly). Rebalancing means increasing or decreasing the weight % of the stocks in the list or adding or removing a stock from the list.
